Doctors expect her recovery to take months, but Brianna remains proud and positive, grateful for being alive despite the storm’s destructive force.
As the storm worsened, Brianna Sheriff, a Point Place resident, realized she needed to shut the window in her home. But it was too late; in an instant, the wind sent a tree branch flying through the glass with such force that it shattered into pieces and injured her face. In the midst of the chaos, she yelled for her 7-year-old son Alex to call 911, and he responded rapidly, screaming ‘911! 911!’ around the house. Despite the devastating destruction caused by the storms and tornado, Brianna is proud and positive, thankful to be alive.
She acted quickly and courageously, grabbing her son and heading to the bathroom for safety. When emergency services could not get to them in time, she called her father, who got to them immediately and rushed her to the University of Michigan Hospital where doctors worked on her for more than four hours. Despite the severity of the situation, Brianna is grateful to be alive and recognizes the gravity of how close she came to a much worse outcome.
Now, with her son by her side, Sheriff is confidently moving forward on the road to recovery. She has been told by her doctors that she will need eight months to a year of recovery time, but she is determined to get back to work sooner than that. In the meantime, she and her son are staying with her parents while she recuperates.
