Superhero Day at Imagination Station
Come explore what it means to be a hero on February 18th at Imagination Station’s Superhero Day! Meet front-line heroes from the Toledo Fire & Rescue Department and learn more about the Ability Center’s incredible Assistance Dogs. All young scientists, ages 3 to 5, and their accompanying family lab assistants are welcome to join in the fun!
Imagination Station proudly invites young scientists, ages 3 to 5, and their accompanying adults, also known as family lab assistants, to explore the world around them through STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). Upcoming topics for these curiosity-inspiring sessions include colors and dinosaurs. On February 18th, Imagination Station will host Superhero Day, a special event that allows kids to explore what it means to be a hero. Kids can meet front-line heroes from the Toledo Fire & Rescue Department and learn more about the Ability Center’s incredible Assistance Dogs.
The Science of Guinness World Records
At Imagination Station, visitors can explore the ‘Science of Guinness World Records’ and uncover the stories behind some of the world’s most extraordinary feats. Going one step further, the museum also put Toledo on the Guinness map by setting a new world record for the most glass bottles recycled in an hour – a fitting accomplishment for the Glass City.
KeyBank Discovery Theater Features
The KeyBank Discovery Theater at Imagination Station features Oceans: Our Blue Planet 3D and Backyard Wilderness 3D. Visitors marvel at the beauty of Earth’s oceans and the secret lives of animals living in their backyards. On occasion, Hollywood feature films are also screened – such as The Untouchables on February 16th at 6:30 pm. With its state-of-the-art technology, the KeyBank Discovery Theater provides an unparalleled experience for moviegoers.
Network with Female Professionals and Participate in Hands-On Workshops
Imagination Station is proud to host the Girl Power! Annual STEAM Career Day on March 11th, providing an opportunity for girls in grades 3-8 to discover the possibilities available to them through science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM). Not only will attendees get to network with female professionals and participate in hands-on workshops, but they can also be inspired by keynote speakers who have made their mark in challenging the status quo. To top it off, this year’s event will feature a visit from a NASA scientist! Imagination Station continues its mission to serve the community and encourage a passion for the sciences outside of its walls, with frequent outreach activities, interactive exhibits, and educational programs throughout the Greater Toledo area and beyond.
Tinkering Takeovers and Extreme Scientist Virtual Field Trips
Imagination Station is proud to announce that, with the help of a generous Institute of Museum and Library Services grant, they are collaborating with local YMCA branches and libraries to host exciting hands-on activities for everyone. From building robots and powering buzzers and switches to engineering motion, these Tinkering Takeovers have something for everyone. Additionally, teachers can book ‘Extreme Scientist’ virtual field trips for grades K-5, complete with 45-minute programs, Q&A sessions, and extension activities to further student understanding.
Exploring the Universe Up Close and Personal
Imagination Station’s STARLAB® creates an awe-inspiring learning environment for students to explore the universe in a unique and personal way. This 16-foot inflatable planetarium can be set up in schools or youth organizations, allowing students to discover their place in space without having to leave their community. Accompanying instructors use engaging stories about the Milky Way to teach lessons in geology, geography, and astronomy. With STARLAB®, students gain a greater appreciation for the world beyond our atmosphere and develop a better understanding of their place in it.
